Accurate Stereotypes
When I saw this poll on the NewsLetter web site I thought for a second that maybe the results could provide solid figures to dispel the myth that Unionists/Prods are all bible-thumping flat young-earther types.
Now obviously the results would be skewed by the fact that fundamentalist christians don't use the internet because it's an unholy work of satan produced from so-called "science" to corrupt children with fairy-tales about evolution... or something.
Should creationism be taught in science classes?
33% No
67% Yes

"Jesus wept!"
Typical bible-thumping beano! Always quoting scripture.

I did hope I wouldn't be the only one who enjoyed the irony.

I wonder how many votes these results were based on? The neat 2:1 ratio of yes:no votes suggests it was taken by three people....
If it was more than three votes, I have no other word to describe the result than....embarrassing. We fight hard to get the rest of the world to think of us as forward-thinking, modern members of the Western world, only to have polls like make us look like backward hicks.
It's not even the faux-science, Intelligent Design, but good ol'-fashioned 19th century creationism. Teaching this in a science class would be akin to teaching knitting in an IT class - they are of about the same relevance. The clue to what happens in science classes is in the name i.e. 'science'; creationism, regardless of it's religious merit, does not, and never will, qualify as a science.

I don't for a second believe this is representative of the unionist community.
Possibly the Free Ps got their brethren to take part (obviously not on a Sunday though).
Friends of mine who have happened upon the Newsletter say it has taken a turn for the crazy under its new editorial team - maybe the normal unionist readership has been culled?

Thankfully Reg, neither do I. In fact it's so far out I'm thinking more about how it reflects on the usefulness of online polls at all (for one thing, they're far too easily cheated).
Colmo, sorry mate but it was sixty-something percent both before and after I voted.

I say let it be taught - it does not stand up to scrutiny. Give the kiddies the argument, let them have a laugh and make their own mind up.
