I'd be surprised if the original Danny Boy was written in Irish given that it was written by an English Lawyer, but who knows..?

By the way, the translation there of the (maybe original) Irish lyrics takes a lot of liberties. I (no surprise) prefer the Irish version. I never liked Danny Boy, and I'd have associated it more with America than Ulster.

There are many songs which share the tune, and tunes typically have many names.

But it's hard to avoid squabbles.

Fights? The tune's the Londonderry Air, when song with the lyrics above, the song is Danny Boy.

I wish you could have heard the fights over ''Danny Boy" ( NO DEAR, it's "Londonderry Aire") during the Holidays, after all what are the Holidays without a good family war. Ahhhhh those were the times I miss. My poor Aunts thought they were green. But, my Mother, the Brat and the baby knew better............... at the top of her lungs. My poor father.

Danny Boy is a great song that should be kept away from any sort of official engagement. Johnny Cash did a good version of it on his final album.
