An Englishman writes: thank you for out playing and beating that shocking bunch of overpaid, overindulged ponces that masquerade as the England football team. A thoroughly deserved win. My only complaint: you didn't put a few more past them, which might have stiffened the FA's spine enough for them to put a much needed foot behind Sven's useless backside.

Well said, and time will tell. We'll never win the Robin Livingstones of this world over, but we're not trying to get rid of sectarian loyalists just to bring in sectarian republicans. From hear say it seems to be going reasonably well, although there's still a while to go yet - but that just about sums up society at large here.

Anyone know if they covered it?..or did the match simply just not happen in Shinnerland?

Congratulations to Northern Ireland!

I had to work over here in the States for the matches so I could get a live video feed of the NI-England game and I was listening to our game vs France on RTE radio online. I was cheering on Healy and the lads from the start and not just because it was against England. If you had been playing France or Brazil or anyone else for that matter I would have been cheering you on just the same.

I bet nights like last night makes all those heartbreaking and disappointing games true NI fans went through over the last 4 years worthwhile.

Was disappointed with our result but it's not the end of the world we still have some hope.

It would be great if the fans admirable "football for all" campaign pays off and people from both sides of the community feel comfortable enough to support Northern Ireland

For christ's sake lighten up. We did humiliate them. No I'm not being xenophobic, but the lads were clearly feeling humiliated; ask Mr Beckham.

As for the bit in my post about RTE - all I know is that we turned over after the match was over and there was nothing between the end of the RoI match and the end of the program about OWC. I apologise if I led you to believe there was a blanket denial in all the Southern media, it was just that programme. You just would have thought something so huge would have got maybe a 60 second discussion.

Still, it was a night none of us will forget in a hurry, and England know We Exist

Now, if we can do the same to Wales when they visit we'll be flying!!

the English medias (i love the guardian) strong language came from their bruised egos , I think its a poor show , not even so much as a "well done" on any papers i read on the train this morning......
the difference in the comments is ....

The nature and motivation of a statement does change depending upon whom it came from.......
Support for a nations football team would indicate to me empathy with that nation , now if this is the case then super-duper , that person should go on up to Windsor park and they'll have a great time.
For myself I could not with a clear consious support the National football team of the Irish Republic.
However if someone who normally states their disaproval for the United Kingdom
(and I don't think i'm pushing it when I put A LOT of reporters/media types in the Rep. into that bracket)
tries to abuse sporting event between to home nations as a platform for their own xenophobic gloating , I say this is explotitive at best and utterly hypocritical.
It also to my mind indicates a deeper malaise.
still, this page was for praise for our Great team and support.
so stuff the headlines and lets just enjoy the memory of what was a great night for Ulster.

Perhaps you should ask the (English) Guardian the same question:

There hasn't really been much talk about the NI-England match here in Dublin today, as they've been talking mostly about the Republic match.

But while people here might savour an English defeat, I think that they might be savouring it slightly more today because it was Northern Ireland, and not Azerbaijan, who dished it out.
