"If they want equality, put some effort into creating an acceptable Northern Ireland flag!"

I've considered that myself but as I posted, Sinn Fein have no interest in that. (I should point out the Paisley Junior was just as childish when he was asked for his ideas)

"I can't help thinking it's a bit of a textbook Unionist response"

Probably is to be honest, but I felt that given the initial motion was textbook Sinn Fein deceit, it was an appropriate counter.

I see what you're saying about every flag being divisive, but if accepting Northern Ireland as a part of the United Kingdom (at the very least, for the time being) is a step too far for nationalists then they shouldn't have agreed to it. Every other country in the world I've been to has the country's flag flying from government buildings, it's not like that in itself is shoving it in anyone's face.

Beano: Good post, but I can't help thinking it's a bit of a textbook Unionist response. In Northern Ireland, ALL flags are symbolic of political division.

You may claim it's a symbol of territorial 'ownership' and Republicans should get used to it, but empathise for a minute and you'll understand why.

Me being me, I loathe both flags in equal measure, unless I see them outside Northern Ireland! The tricolour is perfectly acceptable south of the border and the Union flag is A-OK in London. If they want equality, put some effort into creating an acceptable Northern Ireland flag!

Good piece. I have always noticed Sinn Fein have never really believed in true self-deteremination. if they did . they would probably look for fermanagh, bits of tyrone, derry city south down and south armagh to join the south. and leave the rest in the UK.
