Because a pacifist is someone who wants to avoid war. I would prefer if disputes were settled peacefully but I don't believe at peace at any cost. Most pacifist would for example know that the Second World War had to happen.

I don't see a problem with being a pacifist and honouring fallen soldiers - maybe it can even go some way towards stopping major wars ever happening again.
You seem to be a pacifist who approves of taking up arms in some circumstances.
That's the bit I find strange.

I am a pacifist. But also as I pointed out in another topic, there is a difference between peace and non violence. I would prefer if disputes are sorted out peacefully but if they can't I hold a lot of respect for the people who die for country.

There are many British pacifists who would still wear their poppies. Surely in your opinion Da those two can't go together.

I didn't agree with what they fought for but I respect their right to fight for their country. I have as much respect for men and women who fought and died for Ulster as I do for men and women who fought and died for France or England or America.

No, the majority of the Nationalist population viewed it as a military occupation. There were just some who were willing to do more to end it.

My mistake about the name "Maquis". That aside, your comments about me believing in killing people who don't agree with me couldn't be further from the truth. I believe in the freedom of my country and like shown by patriots around the world, if an obstacle to your country's freedom stands in your way then you remove that obstacle by any means. I believe that any man has the right to lift up arms to expel the army occupying their country.

Let's not get silly now! It's "Maquis" not "Marquis" but the principle is the same.
Basically, Seamus, from what you say you believe that killing people who disagree with you politically is fine and I disagree with that.
I notice you avoided responding to the comment I made about shooting "collaborators", which really tells me a lot about how you see life.
We could go on like this for ever but let's just say I don't think people should be killed because they disagree with me. You appear to feel that it is okay.
