Interesting article in todays Newsletter about the not-very-neutral enviornment in properties owned by Newry and Mourne District council (or Comhairle Iur agus Murna -sp ?)

Imagine the outcry there would (quite rightly) be from Nationalists (and Unionists) if a Unionist controlled local authority were to open a "Billy Wright Memorial Park".

Though I think a mixed working environment is better than a neutral one, what is escaping a lot of the news stories is that several other items are being removed, such a plaque to Kevin Lynch, who is from Dungiven, which is in Limavady Borough. So it isn't completely an attack on unionist as republican artifacts are being removed as well.

Refreshing El Mat. I don't think I'm totally unreasonable: I'd understand if it was a statue of Cromwell or maybe King Billy (which presumably they could sell/donate to a local Orange Lodge?) but when you have to go out of your way to be offended, and even then just by the fact that he happened to be an Orangeman... is there a word beyond pettyness?

I can understand the issue with regard to working environment- I wouldn't want to work somewhere that was draped with union jacks. But going as far as to remove statues etc. seems a bit much.
