This is sort of good Michael, unusual for yorself.

But why does your party seem to want to tie itself to the SDLP?

They invented the D'Hont exective and will sit throgh it regardless of the consequences.

The UUP has momentum, for the moment at least, and really ought to use it, don't faffe around, don't make excuses, get out of the exective while you still can.

If P&J really has to be devolved then it should probably operate like OFMDFM, two ministers who are equal making decisions jointly. On the other hand the NIO could split the department creating a Policing Minister and a Justice Minister. That option would bringing the total number of NIE departments to a mind-numbing 13.

To be honest the whole Assembly here is such a farce that I don't think the Alliance taking this post could make it any more slimey.

I don't think any of the local parties can criticise anyone else over succumbing to the "sniff of a ministerial car " either. The UUP and SDLP were both talking the talk about forming an opposition that came to nothing and the less said about the DUPes and the Provos the better.

I'd just tread carefully if I were the Alliance that they don't get in a situation where the DUP/SF could decide on a whim to remove them from P&J - that's the recipe, where the big 2 are calling the shots, that would allow the position to be abused for the self-interest of DUP/SF's party interests.

On a personal note I'm not sure whether the Alliance would be any good at running P&J, but then again they can't be worse than either the Democratic "close everything on Sundays" Unionists or Sinn "murder isn't a crime if..." Fein.
