Lisa Dorrian's 26th Birthday Marked By Family
Murdered Bangor woman Lisa Dorrian's family have marked her 26th birthday today yesterday by releasing white balloons over the seafront in Bangor, but say they are no closer to finding out what happened. It's been 15 weeks since that fateful night and while loyalist paramilitaries still seem to be the guilty party, no body has been found to help shed some light on the investigation.
Lisa's sister Joanne made an appeal to her killers: "I just want to say to these people, they can see what we're going through so please just tell us where she is and put us out of our misery."
Three men have been questioned but were later released and currently the police are looking into the possible involvement of LVF members.
The family have offered a £10,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of Lisa's body.
Follow up:
It is a shame that this case hasn't attracted the same media coverage as the McCartney murder but I'm interested as to why this might be. Obviously Sinn Fein/IRA apologists will tell you it's hard evidence of the pro-Unionist bias in the mainstream media. We all know this "bias" only exists in the minds of paranoid republicans but what is the reason then?
Is it because this is "just a murder" and didn't see the same forensic sweep of an organised team? Is it because of the savage nature of the McCartney murder and the fact there was a body there to evidence this? Or is it something more sinister...
Perhaps its because the killers of McCartney were involved with a successful political party. This party could be used to apply pressure to the police and the guilty party. The loyalists have no such successful political entity to pressurise, particularly the LVF. That said, I'm still not convinced that's the only reason.
I wonder if it's because we just accept that loyalists kill their own. We all know that these people aren't exactly the cream of society - but are they really that devoid of morals that this is just what we expect? I suspect this harsh truth will do little to comfort the family of this latest victim of loyalist thugs.
