More Attacks on Emergency Services
The scumbags of Derry were out in force again last night. A crowd of youths attacked police and fire fighters with fireworks and missiles while they were dealing with a burning car at around 10pm. The attacks took place in the same Galliagh area where paramedics were attacked the night before.
Follow up:
I can only presume the car was set alight deliberately to attract the police and firefighters into the area so they could be attacked.
"The emergency services at some stage will say: 'We are not going out there, that's only those thugs again and we are not going out to be abused'."
SDLP Councillor, Mary Bradley
I think that would be a great idea. The ambulance/fire services should refuse to attend. However, the police doing so would create a vacuum for paramilitaries to take over and so should continue to attend, but arrive at any callout there with plastic baton rounds at the ready. It amazes me that you can be stopped for driving at 85mph on a motorway but get away with mindless destruction and potentially lethal attacks on people who spend their lives trying to save others.
