IMC Report Remains Unpublished
Tony Blair still hasn't published the IMC report on paramilitary activity which was presented to the government (and the Irish government) on 29th April, but publication was set aside until after the election. Now here we are 2 weeks after said election and Alliance leader David Ford is calling on the governments to publish the report.
Follow up:
The report is expected to be highly critical of IRA and UVF activity. Mr Ford believes it will be important in 3 main areas: activity in the time since the pre-Christmas negotiations broke down, the Northern Bank robbery and the Robert McCartney murder. "It is important that the IMC report is published immediately, to ensure that the political process can proceed on an open and transparent basis," said Ford.
As part of a scathing attack on Tony Blair, Alex Kane, writing in yesterday's Newsletter, expects the government to whitewash over the report when it is finally published, in an effort to appease Sinn Fein. He expects the report to confirm that the IRA is still recruiting and showing no signs of any willingness to disband.
