McCartney Accused Remanded in Custody
The 2 men that were arrested for the McCartney murder last week, later charged with murder and attempted murder, have been remanded in custody until 1st July according to Irish state broadcaster RTE. According to the Press Association report (carried at UTV) the 2 men will appear via video link on that date.
Follow up:
The man accused of the murder is 49 year old Terence Davison. Evidence Davison is based on 2 witness identifications but there is no forensic evidence. The man accused of the attempted murder of McCartney's friend Brendan Devine is 36 year old James McCormick. Evidence against McCormick is based on 2 witness identifications and some forensic evidence.
Whilst I ackonowledge that McCartney and Devine seem to have been hoods themselves, it's still good to see the (alleged) perpetrators of such a heinous murder (and lets not forget the ruthless coverup) being brought to account. Regardless of the social activities of the victims, I'll be reassured a little about the capabilities of the PSNI if they can create a successful case against these men. It's vital that thugs and gangs so prolific in Northern Ireland are shown that they can't brutally dominate people's lives with impunity from the law like they seem to have done for too long.
