Trimble Off To The Lords With DUP Peers
David Trimble looks set to become a life peer along with 3 DUP members set to become the party's first representatives in the House of Lords. The peerages are expected to go to Ian Paisley's wife Eileen, Belfast Lord Mayor Wallace Brown and party chairman Maurice Morrow.
Not everyone's happy but personally I think Trimble deserves it. He's one of the few local politicians to ever stick his neck on the line for something greater than himself.
Follow up:
Aside from that, the point in the story I took interest in was "Since becoming the largest party the DUP have made it clear they are entitled to seats in the upper chamber." Yes, apparently now parties are entitled to seats in the Lords.
The DUP really piss me off getting on like this. Like other local politicians, they're little more than a glorified pressure group, and yet they feel they have the right to dictate to the British government how they should act and who they should appoint to the upper chamber? Wise the bap.
