Last McCartney Leaves Short Strand
Paula McCartney, the last remaining sister of murdered Robert McCartney still living in the Short Strand area has left her home of 40 years in disgust at the treatment her family has received since her brother's death. She said she felt "disillusioned, disgusted and betrayed" by events since Robert's murder, including the fact that her brother's alleged IRA killers are still walking around Short Strand getting on with things as normal.
Follow up:
The McCartney sisters' campaign for justice brought them into conflict with the IRA/Sinn Fein. In September a crowd picketed the home of Robert McCartney's partner and her children. Now the last McCartney is leaving an area to which their family has had ties for over 100 years.
It's depressing that after how far we've supposedly come, people can still be forced out of their homes, and away from their friends, by the actions of a revolting underclass of scum, intent on ruling their communities through fear and removing anyone who disagrees with them. Despite this, I'd wager it happens a lot more often than we hear about right in our own back yard.
