Irish Blog Awards
While I recently mentioned that Everything Ulster had hit the big time, it came as something of a surprise to find that the site has been nominated for Best Political Blog in the 2008 Irish Blog Awards.
Being up against the likes of Slugger O'Toole, the Mac Daddy of Northern Irish (and probably Irish) blogs, the odds of actually winning are about equivalent to those on Limavady Utd. winning the premier league this year, but it's an honour just to make the long-list, so thanks to whoever saw fit to nominate this little site of mine.
The Irish Blog Awards 'ceremony' will take place on 1st March at the Alexander Hotel in Dublin.

I'd be interested to know whether anyone else thinks that Slugger is going down the tubes big time? For a long while the comment has been dominated by long pointless rants about the evils of Britain and unionists which bear little or nothing to do with the topics on hand. But actually now most topics come to other blogs first and there are more coherent posts on those blogs. Peter Baker is good on Slugger and occasionally Mick provides something interesting when he's not concentrating on his other projects, but outside those two and Michael's posts the standard is poor. Or is it just me?

I'm not sure the phenomenon you describe in the comments is new to Slugger, but I'm not really in a position to comment given how far some posts here diverge from the topic.
The sheer volume of posts means Slugger's probably the blog I spend more time on than anything (besides EU obviously!) I was under the impression it was still first to a lot of stories.
Oh and I think Fair Deal makes very good (if infrequent) contributions.

I don’t think the anti-British/Unionist rantings in the comments Slugger zone are anything new, althought there seems to be also quite a nasty sectarian edge to a few of the posters on there. I give the comments section a miss now, I’ve a finite amount of time in the day and I don’t really want to waste it arguing with people whose main line of argument seems to run along the lines of “There’ll be no more fenians back of the bus y’know.”
Peter Baker and Mick still produce good posts but nothing ground-breaking. Fair Deal, I really think his wasting his time on there and should now think about doing his own blog.
