PSNI Make 2 McCartney Arressts
Two men have been arrested this morning in relation to the McCartney murder in January. One arrest took place in Belfast, the other in Birmingham. The two men arrested have been taken to Antrim police station for questioning.
Some commentators seem to have the feeling that there is something more substantial to these arrests than the ten that took place months back where the detainees were released after refusing to answer questions. I for one hope they're right and I must admit that given the time between the previous arrests and these, one would be forgiven for assuming the police have been able to put together a decent case.
Follow up:
I've long wondered if the PSNI would ever get anyone for this. Republican paranoia seems to have been working on the assumption that the PSNI want the case to go on and on so to dirty the 'good name' (scoff!) of Sinn Fein/IRA and I sincerely hope that the police have caught the men responsible and that they're convicted. (I'm working on the assumption that they won't be elligible for early release under the Good Friday Agreement)
Perhaps all is not lost on the Northern Bank robbery... ?
