Your Right To Be Smoke Free
Smokefree NI ("a coalition of 41 statutory, private and voluntary organisations" according to the BBC) and the Monica McWilliams from the NI Human Rights Commission have declared that bar workers have a 'human right' not to be forced to suffer the ill effects of 2nd hand smoke at work. Normally I cringe at the words "human rights" or "discrimination" but in this case it's hard to find fault.
Follow up:
In fact, I think the 'right' should be extended to everyone whether they happen to be working or not. What right has someone else got to poison me? The old argument from smokers is that if you don't like it then don't go places where people smoke. Ballocks. Why should I not go out for the night with friends just because some obnoxious c**t wants to blow smoke in my face all night, or hold his/her cigarette just below my nose?
Bring on the ban, and make it total!
