The Conservatives have a quote from a speech by Iris Robinson, upholder of God's law, made in the House of Commons on the topic of sex offenders.

There can be no viler act, apart from homosexuality and sodomy, than sexually abusing innocent children.

Homosexuality is "viler" than paedophilia? The physical act of sodomy is perhaps not something I would care to picture while at the dinner table, and I can accept that Iris may not be happy about practices that contradict her religion, but when you make statements like that is it any wonder that "these days Christians are persecuted for their views" (especially when you're trying to force your views on others).

(And "persecuted"? Really?!) :crazy:

Update: On today's TalkBack Iris claims "I clearly intended to say that child abuse was worse even than homosexuality and sodomy." where David Dunseith had claimed that Iris's original comment was her "voicing opinions probably shared by a fair proportion of the Northern Ireland population, if not the majority." Jesus wept!

It would be easier to believe it was a mistake if a lot of other comments by her and her party colleagues didn't all point to the fact that she actually believes this crap.
It's the sort of thing that keeps us in our own dark ages.

Iris may indeed not be happy about practices which contradict her religion but I don’t believe anyone is forcing her to engage in such practices.

A Muslim may be unhappy about the fact that I may be partial to the odd pork chop or a Jehovah witness may be unhappy about me carrying a donor card or a Jew might be unhappy about my intact foreskin but for some strange reason they generally seem to deem it appropriate to mind their own damn business.

Why cant she ?

Meanwhile on the other side of the nuthouse todays Irish Times has the headline "Many unionists bigoted against gays, says leading activist"

Perhaps a better choice of headline would have been "Themmuns bigoted says bigot" ?
